The new sporty version of the legendary subcompact car has been introduced last summer and latest reports suggest it is coming to North America after all, as the 2020 Ford Fiesta ST. The famous ST badge continues in Ford’s lineup and represents the second fastest version of famous cars like Focus or Fiesta. In this case, the new model comes based on the new generation of Fiesta, which came a year ago. Of course, upgrades are numerous and include a new engine, chassis upgrades, new styling details and much more.
- Powerful engine
- Great handling
- Attractive styling
- Yet to be confirmed for the U.S. market
- Three cylinders may not be a fun-factor
The first thing that you’ll notice on this version is a new styling. The 2020 Ford Fiesta ST will come with lots of new details that will emphasize its sporty character. Of course, count on things like the new body kit, new rims, grille, and much more new details. Still, more important are those mechanical changes. This version is 14% more rigid compared to standard Ford Fiesta. Also, it comes with a completely new suspension setup, which provides not just better driving characteristics, but lowers the car as well, which is another thing that improves visual appeal. For comparison, the new mode is for about 2 inches wider than the previous Fiesta ST200.
Just like the exterior, the interior of the 2020 Ford Fiesta ST is also full of distinctive details. In order to accentuate its sporty character, it comes with a lot of upgrades in terms of the cabin layout. Count on things like new seats, new trims, color schemes and much more. Also, keep in mind that this is a hi-grade trim level, so a generous list of standard equipment is expected as well. This refers to both tech and safety systems.
One of the most distinctive aspects of the 2020 Ford Fiesta ST is powertrain compartment. Unlike the previous generation, this one keeps sticking to three cylinders. All engines in the offer for the new-generation Fiesta are three-cylinder units. This one comes with a new 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine, which is good for about 200 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. This is pretty much the same amount of power as in the previous model, which features a four-cylinder unit. When it comes to transmission, a 6-speed manual will be the only choice. Such combinations will provide excellent performances, like 0-60 time in about 6.5 seconds.
