When it comes to Ford Explorer, the last time we saw some updates on this model was in 2011. Since then the fans have been waiting for some new changes and improvements to happen. According to our sources and some recent spy photos, it seems that the next-generation Explorer is on its way to hit the market as a 2019 Ford Explorer model soon.
The 2019 Ford Explorer is going to make its appearance as a three-row crossover with more muscular and modern design. The spy photos we have got reveal the camouflaged prototype of this model being tested recently. Although it seems that the new Explorer remains mostly similar to its predecessor, there are some really evolutionary changes that will happen under the camouflage. First of all, the new Explorer will abandon the current D4 platform and use a new D6 with a front-wheel drive design and optional all-wheel drive. The body will also be mostly made of aluminum which will reduce weight and improve its fuel economy. The crossover SUV will get larger dimensions which will provide more space for the passengers and cargo inside the cabin. In the front fascia, the Explorer is expected to redesign its hood, headlights and bumpers. Some significant upgrades are also expected in the rear part of this vehicle, especially in terms of taillights.
The spy photos of the camouflaged 2019 Ford Explorer have not really let us know what kind of interior we can expect. It is certain that this crossover will undergo significant improvements inside its cabin its well and we only hope for the best. The cabin will offer three-row seating configuration and plenty of headroom and legroom for its adult passengers. Ford should also use some better-quality and lightweight materials for seats and interior details. The driver should probably expect a larger touch-screen display with the latest infotainment system and numerous next-generation options and connectivity features. The new Explorer will include necessary safety systems and driver assist features as well.
The engine that the 2019 Ford Explorer will be hiding under its hood has still been sort of a mystery, but we have been informed that the base model should be expected with a turbocharged inline-four. Supposedly, the new Explorer will abandon the current engine options. In those higher-performance models, you should probably hope for a turbocharged V6, used in 2019 Ford F-150. The engine of the new Explorer will possibly be mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission instead of the older six-speed.
