A month ago, the whole automotive world was wrangling about leaked photos of the new 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Eventually, they turned out to be fake. Of course, the company keeps its most famous sports car as a secret and we definitely won’t see anything before its official premiere, which is planned for the next year. Until then, we can speculate about all the possible changes that could come in the new flagship model. Latest reports suggest the premiere already this January, at the Detroit Auto Show.
- Legendary nameplate
- Monstrous V8
- Lots of upgrades
- High price tag
Leaked photos turned out to be fake, so the styling of the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is once again in a domain of speculations. Compared to the GT350, we expect to see a couple of modification. Of course, most of them will come at front. The first thing that comes to our minds is a new bumper, which would come with larger air intakes and provide direct cooling for the brakes. Also, some reports suggest wider fenders. Of course, new wheels will come, as well as a different rear spoiler. In terms of mechanics, expect a different chassis setup, with a new suspension, brakes etc.
On the inside, the new Shelby GT500 should come with a full load of standard equipment. Compared to the stripped off GT350, it will come with much more standard equipment. In this case, interior design won’t be sacrificed for weight savings and better performances. Also, it will come with a few more exclusive details, which will make a clear departure from the GT350, as well as from the rest of the lineup.
The current generation of Mustang is present for some time and probably the biggest complain is that the is no version in the offer that can match rivals in terms of power. The existing GT350 is an amazing car. Still, it lacks in power compared to the most powerful versions of some rivals. Therefore, the company prepares a new engine for the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
The upcoming model is about to become Ford’s most powerful production car even. We expect to see a 5.2-liter V8, the same that powers the GT350, but with a significant power boost. Latest reports suggest the new version will feature a max output over 700 horsepower. Some reports even go that far to suggest something like 770 hp and 740 lb-ft of torque. A great news about the new model is that we can expect a manual transmission in the offer. It will come as an option, while base models will come with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Release Date and Price
As we already mentioned, the latest reports suggest that the new GT500 will have its premiere in Detroit, this January. In that case, sales would start a couple of months later. The price should go somewhere around $80,000.
